'The Captured Spy', 1895, (c1930). A man, naked but for a loincloth, prostrates himself before a vizier shaded by a parasol. Scene possibly inspired by the painter's own experiences during his travels in the Middle East where he was pursued on horseback by thieves, shot at, and thrown into prison as a spy by a Pasha in Kurdistan. Painting in the Glasgow Museums Service collection, Glasgow, Scotland. From "Modern Masterpieces of British Art". [The Amalgamated Press Ltd., London, c1930]
