'Captain MacClintock's Search for Franklin, 1859: The Discovery of the Ross Cairn Relics by Lieutenant Hobson, of the Yacht 'Fox', May 6', (1901). Admiral Francis McClintock led an expedition which confirmed the fate of John Franklin's 1845 expedition to find the Northwest Passage. William Hobson, a member of McClintock's team, found the only written record left by Franklin's expedition, buried under a cairn. The document recorded Sir John Franklin's death on 11 June 1847.
