'Temples on the Banks of the Ganges, Benares, India', c1909. 'They are gradually sinking into the sandy bed of the river.' Subsiding Hindu temple on the river Ganges in the holy city of Varanasi. The city has 88 ghats, (steps leading down to water), used for bathing, or for the cremation of bodies. One of a set of stereocard views by George Rose, boxed as "Studies through the Stereoscope", to be viewed on a Sun Sculpture stereoscope made by Underwood & Underwood.
