'Queen Victoria Awakened to Hear the News of her Accession, June 20, 1837', (1901). Princess Victoria (1819-1901) receiving the news of the death of her uncle, King William IV, from Lord Chamberlain Francis Conyngham and Archbishop of Canterbury William Howley, at Kensington Palace in London, in the early hours of the morning. Victoria inherited the throne at the age of 18, and ruled as Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland from 1837 until her death.
