'Harold swearing to maintain the Right of the Duke of Normandy to the Throne of England', c1890. Harold Godwinson (c1022-1066) arrived in Pointhieu in 1064, perhaps shipwrecked or seeking release of members of his family, he was was captured by Guy of Ponthieu, handed over to Duke William who presented him with weapons at Dinan. Harold then swore an oath on sacred relics supporting William's claim to the English throne. From "Cassell's Illustrated History of England".
