'At New Norcia', 1901. In March 1846, a Benedictine mission was led by Rosendo Salvado and Joseph Serra. In March 1847 the foundation stone of the monastery was laid and named New Norcia, after Norcia in Italy, the birthplace of St Benedict. From "Federated Australia".
