'The meeting of Eliezer and Rebecca at the well', 19th century. Biblical scene, from Genesis 24: 22: 'And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden earring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold'. Abraham's servant Eliezer gives Rebecca jewels to seal her betrothal to Isaac, after she had demonstrated kindness in offering water to Eliezer's camels. Engraving after a painting of 1701 by Antoine Coypel, in the Louvre Museum in Paris.
