'Behold the place where they laid him', 19th century. Biblical scene, from Mark 16: 6: 'And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him'. The Virgin Mary and Mary Magdalene at Christ's tomb. Jesus' body was sealed in a tomb after his crucifixion, but it was found to be empty after God raised him from the dead.
