'Rescue of the Countess De Burgh, from Montgomery Castle', 1836. Elizabeth de Burgh (c1289-1327) was the second wife and queen consort of King Robert I of Scotland. She was captured and imprisoned for eight years by the English, being held at various places including Windsor and Rochester Castles. There is no historical basis for her rescue from Montgomery Castle.
