'The tutor's carriage met them', (1907). The young Mendelssohn goes missing on the journey to Switzerland: 'They had to change carriages at Potsdam, and...Felix was suddenly missed...the boy had been left behind at Potsdam. The tutor...returned with the truant seated by his side, dusty and footsore, but otherwise as fresh as when he had started. He had, it appeared, strayed from the party...and determined to perform the journey to Brandenburg on foot. A little peasant-girl joined him...until the tutor's carriage met them about a mile from the next halting-place.' An episode from the life of German composer Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847).
