Francis I, King of France, c1540s?, (1907). Portrait of Francis (1494-1547) who ruled France from 1515. He is regarded as France's first Renaissance monarch and his kingdom underwent great cultural advances during his reign. After a portrait made in 1565 by Pierre Dumonstier (after an earlier work), in the Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris, after an early 16th century drawing by Jean Clouet.
