Lamentation over the dead Christ, marble panel, c1470-1475, (1881). Etching of a carved relief made by Bartolomeo Bellano in the early 1470s for the church of SS Trinità in Padua, Italy. The panel possibly formed the central part of an altarpiece, and shows Christ lying in the lap of the Virgin Mary, with Mary Magdalene in the lower left corner kissing Christ's right hand. The older man in the top row, (second from left, in profile), may be the donor of the piece. From "The South Kensington Museum", a book of engraved illustrations, with descriptions, of the works of art in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London (formerly known as the South Kensington Museum).
