Ivory book cover depicting God the Father, early 15th century, (1881). Etching of the pierced relief cover of a book, made in Paris or Flanders. It shows God the Father enthroned within a diamond shape, wearing a papal tiara (triple crown), holding the orb with a cross in his left hand, and raising his right hand in benediction. In the corners are the symbols of the four Evangelists holding scrolls: the eagle, angel, bull and lion. From "The South Kensington Museum", a book of engraved illustrations, with descriptions, of the works of art in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London (formerly known as the South Kensington Museum).
