'Edward II', (1284- 1327), 1830. Edward II (1284- 1327) King of England from 1307 until he was deposed in January 1327. He had a close and controversial relationship with Piers Gaveston who was banished and then executed. Edward was defeated by Robert the Bruce at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314 and criticism of his reign mounted. He was forced to relinquish his crown in January 1327.
