'Pennant', (1726-1798), 1830. Thomas Pennant (1726-1798) Welsh naturalist, travel writer and antiquarian whose books influenced Samuel Johnson. He travelled with his servant and illustrator Moses Griffith, recording his route, the scenery, habits and activities of people he met, their customs, superstitions and wildlife.
