Delft Plate, c. 1690-1700. The Dutch were the major traders with China in the 1600s. The tin-glazed earthenware of Holland—called Delftware after the chief center of manufacturing—reflects strongly the influence of Chinese porcelain. In the case of this plate, such influence is apparent both in the design of the central figural decoration and in the choice of blue and white as its medium of execution.
