Fragment Mounted as a Box Cover with a Scene from Amida's Paradise, 1100s. This box features a fragment of a scroll. The overall geometric pattern creates a harmonious background in this scene of seven bodhisattvas in an architectural setting. Two boddhisattvas play instruments while seated on lotus flower thrones, while another, on the far left, holds a tray of offerings. With its soft gold colours and ethereal subject matter, this scene was likely part of a larger composition depicting the Western Paradise, considered the eternal resting place of souls in some sects of Buddhism.
