Large Dish with Artichokes, c. 1535-1540. During the 1500s ceramic vessels and tiles produced in Iznik for the Ottoman court in Istanbul represented the finest Islamic ceramics. This dish is a spectacular example with its exuberant design and execution of artichokes. It was made during the reign of Sultan Suleyman the Magnificent (1520-66), a high point of Ottoman art.
