Mirror with Ornamented Frame, 1886. McLaughlin was an important figure in the Cincinnati Arts and Crafts movement during the later 19th century. She is known chiefly for her work in ceramics, but as this mirror demonstrates, she was an accomplished practitioner in other media—in this case wood and metal. The influence of Japanese taste can be seen, especially in the design of the etched metal plaques decorated with chrysanthemums.
