The Abduction of a Sabine Woman. Andreani’s woodcut presents a view of Giambologna’s marble sculpture The Abduction of a Sabine Woman , unveiled in 1583 in Florence. Capitalizing on the sculpture’s popularity, Andreani published three chiaroscuro woodcuts of it from different viewpoints, including this one. Asymmetrical yet balanced, the spiraling composition of active, entangled bodies generates a sense of perpetual movement.
