The Bateman Amphora (Wine Jar), c. 530-520 BC. The Lysippides Painter worked in both black- and red-figure terracotta, sometimes incorporating both styles on one vase. Vases with this unique combination are called bilingual. He followed the grand style of Exekias, the greatest of black-figure vase painters. Although the Lysippides Painter's style is somewhat more conservative than that of Exekias, it still retains an elegance and delicacy inspired by the great master. Side A: Warriors in a fight; Side B: Dionysus and satyrs
