The French army crossing the St Bernard Pass, c1796, (1921). 'Passage du Grand St Bernard par l'Armée Française de Reserve commandée par le G[énér]al en chef Alexandre Berthier sous les ordres de Bonaparte Premier Consul'. On the orders of First Consul Napoleon Bonaparte, Marshal Louis-Alexandre Berthier leads the French army across the Alps into Italy.
