The Battle of Borodino, 7 September 1812, (1921). 'Bataille de la Moskowa'. The Battle of Moskova (also known as the Battle of Borodino), fought on 7 September 1812, was the largest and bloodiest single day battle of the Napoleonic Wars. Although it was a tactical victory for Napoleon, the Russians were able to withdraw their army with sufficient strength to ultimately force the French to retreat from Russia. French surgeon Dominique Jean Larrey (in the foreground) reportedly performed 200 amputations in 24 hours. After the painting by French aide-de-camp Louis Francois Lejeune.
