Rostral column in the gardens of the Château de Méréville, Essonne, France, (1903). 'Colonne Rostrale, Dans Les Jardins De Méréville'. View of the column, built in 1787, on an island in the main lake, in honour of the marquis' two young sons, Édouard (1762-1786) and Ange Auguste (1766-1786) who died at Lituya Bay in Alaska during the La Pérouse expedition. The column is decorated with the bows of ships, to glorify their virtues. From "La Revue De L'Art Ancien et Moderne" - Volume XIV, July-December 1903, [Paris, 1903]
