'Queen Alexandra as a Christmas Fairy', First World War, 1915, (c1920). 'Her Majesty serving soldiers at a free buffet in London...The free buffets at the great railway stations, for soldiers home on leave from the front, proved a boon throughout the war. Queen Alexandra, who was keenly interested in them, paid a surprise visit to Lady Limerick's buffet at London Bridge during the Christmas holidays of 1915, and took her turn among the voluntary workers for an hour and a half'.
