Damage to HMS 'Vindictive', First World War, 1918, (c1920). 'The Vindictive's Battle Scars: view showing her condition on returning from Zeebrugge Raid'. 'Vindictive', a British Arrogant-class cruiser of the Royal Navy, was badly damaged by gunfire during the Zeebrugge Raid, an attempt by the Navy to block the Belgian port of Bruges-Zeebrugge which was used by the Imperial German Navy as a base for U-boats and light shipping.
