'Washington Elm, Cambridge', 1874. The Washington Elm on Cambridge Common, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. It was supposedly under this tree that George Washington first took command of the American Army on 3 July 1775. The tree lived for approximately 210 years and died in 1923.
