'The Upper Delaware', 1874. 'Above Callicoon; Pond Eddy; Below Deposit', views of the Delaware River, New York State, USA. The town name of Deposit was derived from the deposits of logs made by lumbermen. The timber was formed into rafts to float down the Delaware River to feed the factories. From "Picturesque America; or, The Land We Live In, A Delineation by Pen and Pencil of the Mountains, Rivers, Lakes...with Illustrations on Steel and Wood by Eminent American Artists" Vol. II, edited by William Cullen Bryant.
