'Inner court, house of Marcus Lucretius, Pompeii, Italy', c1909. The ancient Roman city of Pompeii was buried under two metres of volcanic ash in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. The House of Marcus Lucretius was first excavated in 1846-47. To be viewed on a Sun Sculpture stereoscope made by Underwood & Underwood.
