'A Relief Party in Search of Sir John Franklin', 19th century, (1946). In 1845, John Franklin led a British expedition to find the Northwest Passage. After two years with no news of the expedition, rescuers set out to search for the missing men. Here sailors fight polar bears on Artic ice, with a tall ship in the distance.
