The Convocation in the Theatre, 1844. Degree ceremony in the Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford. 'Towards eleven o'clock the procession entered the theatre, the Vice-Chancellor being loudly cheered: then followed the noblemen, the heads of the houses, doctors, and proctors...The convocation was then opened by the Vice- Chancellor, and the degrees were conferred; the gentlemen being introduced, with appropriate speeches, by Dr. Phillimore, the Regius Professor of Civil Law.
