Presentation of the Address in the Reception Room, 1844. Opening of the new Royal Exchange building in the City of London. The building was designed by Sir William Tite and was officially opened by Queen Victoria. 'Her Majesty took her seat on the dais, Prince Albert standing on her right, on the second step, and the Duchess of Kent and the Duke of Cambridge on her left - Sir Robert Peel stood on the floor of the room, a little below Prince Albert, and Sir James Graham next Sir Robert, but nearer the foot of the throne, that he might be ready to receive her Majesty's commands in his official capacity'. The Lord Mayor of London, William Magnay, carried the City sword of state. From "Illustrated London News", 1844, Vol I.
