William Magnay, the Lord Mayor of London, hosts '...a very numerous meeting...held in the Egyptian-hall of the Mansion-house, for the purpose of forming an association to furnish the labouring poor with baths and wash-houses. Several ladies were present....and quoted authorities to prove the improvement of health arising from frequent ablutions...a committee was appointed to carry the resolutions into effect'.
