T. S. Duncombe Esq., M.P., 1844. Portrait of British politician Thomas Slingsby Duncombe. 'Mr. T. Duncombe is well known as the Parliamentary advocate of popular rights and personal grievances. In bringing forward both of them, he has on many occasions met with more success than could have been anticipated for one who holds extreme political opinions, and who is not attached very closely to any one section of the house as a party man. He owes his success partly to personal qualities, such as earnestness and boldness of speech, but more to the ability with which he chooses his ground of attack, never bringing forward a case that is either untenable or badly supported by evidence, and more than all, perhaps, by the great knowledge he has of the forms of Parliament, and the skill and tact with which he uses it'.
