Launch of "The Waterwitch", at Cowes, 1844. Ship of the Royal Navy built by Joseph White, being relaunched at Cowes on the Isle of Wight after repairs. 'Sir Charles Napier said: 'the Admiralty...sent her to the coast of Africa, where she remained five years...The services she had performed were almost beyond belief; the number of slavers she captured, pursuant to the treaties effected by the noble lord, the member for Tiverton, showed the necessity of sending out vessels of the class of the Waterwitch to the African coast'.
