Refreshment Room - Royal Botanic Society's Gardens, 1844. 'The spring exhibition of this society was held on Tuesday at the inner circle of the Regent's Park [in London]; and, taking into consideration the early period of the year, the show was certainly the finest of the kind we have ever witnessed. An intimation of the rarity and forwardness of the specimens for exhibition succeeded in attracting the attention of Royalty. Her Majesty and Prince Albert, attended by the Marchioness of Douro, Colonel Buckley, and Colonel Bouverie, had, before the public were admitted, a private view of the plants and flowers. The weather was beautifully fine, and the grounds were crowded by a numerous and fashionable company'. From "Illustrated London News", 1844, Vol I.
