Visitors in one of London's royal palaces: 'The massive cornice, extending the length of the four windows, has been re-gilt; and the draperies are of crimson silk damask, trimmed with heavy gold-coloured fringe. The seats are re-covered with a crimson brocade, and the frames of the furniture have been re-gilt, as likewise the pier tables, candelabra, and other ornaments'.
