Capture of a pirate slaver on the western coast of Africa, 1845. A sketch by Commander E. Wilson of the 'gallant engagement between the boats of H. M. S. Pantaloon, and a piratical slaver...' HMS Pantaloon of the Royal Navy intercepted a ship carrying enslaved people across the Atlantic Ocean: '"After a stout resistance of half-an-hour, the slaver was boarded, and carried by the boats, with a loss of two killed and eight wounded; the slaver having seven killed and seven wounded, amongst which number was the captain." We can only add our congratulation to our correspondent on the satisfactory termination of this intrepidity in the cause of oppressed humanity'. From "Illustrated London News", 1845, Vol VII.
