Mr. Pilcher, 1845. Portrait of Jeremiah Pilcher, candidate for the London borough of Southwark. 'Mr. Pilcher, the second candidate, made a gallant fight of it, and the number he polled is a flattering testimony both to the esteem in which he is held, and the zeal of his friends. He was proposed as the "local" candidate, a resident in the borough, and acquainted with its interests. In principles, he is a moderate Conservative, a supporter of the Church, and an opponent of the Maynooth Grant. He has served the office of Sheriff'. The election was won by William Molesworth. From "Illustrated London News", 1845, Vol VII.
