New landing place, at East Cowes, built for Her Majesty, 1845. Queen Victoria travels from Windsor Castle to Osborne House on the Isle of Wight, another of her royal residences. She and her family took a South Western Railway train from Farnborough Station, and then a 'special' train to Gosport. 'The Queen having officially intimated her intention to the naval and military commanders in-chief at Portsmouth, of revisiting her new marine residence, Osborne-house, at an early hour the necessary preparations for her Majesty's proper reception and convenience commenced ashore and afloat'. Here she leaves Cowes by carriage having crossed the straits of the Solent on the royal yacht 'Fairy'. From "Illustrated London News", 1845, Vol VII.
