St. Paul's Church, New Zealand, 1845. 'The foundation stone of the Metropolitan Church of St. Paul, Auckland, was laid by his Excellency Governor Hobson, on the 28th July, 1841, eighteen months after the first establishment of the Colony...The walls of the building are still unplastered, and must remain so, until a sum for the purpose of completing the interior can be raised by private subscription; which, in the present state of the Colony, it is feared will not be for some time. The sum required would be about Three Hundred Pounds...Should any of our readers take interest in the completion of the edifice, our Correspondent, as a Trustee of the Church, will be happy to afford them any information; and, on his return to the colony, in about two months, will take charge of any contributions...'.
