York Minster and the city walls, 1844. 'The fourteenth annual meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science is now assembled in the ancient city of York, in which place, the public will remember, the first meeting of the Association was held. The locality is an admirable one for the purpose, being well suited in relation to the interests of many important counties, and admirably calculated to furnish abundant and instructive amusement to the visitors. Indeed, few spots equal it in antiquarian or geological interest. Our heading displays a general view of York, combined with one of the venerable City gates; the Minster; the Ruins of St. Mary's; the old walls...'. From "Illustrated London News", 1844, Vol V.
