This document is from a collection of financial papers related to the plantation operations of several generations of the Rouzee Family in Essex County, Virginia. The papers date from the 1790s through 1860. This handwritten, single page document is a tax account for the estate of John Rouzee for the year 1824. This documents lists "27 slaves and 4 horses, 23 levies, 479/4 acres of land, 1.30 acres of land." The amounts due for each are recorded in a column on the right side of the page, totaling forty-nine (49) dollars and fifty-nine (59) cents paid in full by Edward Rouzee. The bottom and opposite side also contain numerical equations and notations.
