A large sepia-toned cabinet card of Charles Young (1864-1922) as a cadet at West Point. He was the third African-American graduate of the United States Military Academy, the first black U.S. national park superintendent, first black military attaché, first black man to achieve the rank of colonel in the US Army, and highest-ranking black officer in the regular army. The image appears as an oval shape on a rectangular photograph adhered to a rectangular card mount. Young is pictured from the chest up. He is in uniform, with an Eagle insignia visible on his cap. He looks straight at the camera. At the bottom of the card is the photography's studio logo [Pach Bros] to the left and their address [841 Broadway New York] to the right.
