Carte-de-visite of American inventor Nancy Maria Donaldson Johnson (1794-1890) who was awarded the first US patent for a hand-cranked ice cream freezer in 1843. She is shown in half portrait, turned one quarter to her right and looks off frame. Her hair is parted at the center and smoothed down to just above her ears where it is curled in ringlets. She wears an ornate lace and ribbon cap with lace tails on the back part of her head. She has on a dark colored bodice with a black velvet yoke embellishment, a white lace collar, and a chatelaine is pinned at her center front neck with the chain extending underneath and below her lace collar toward her left side waist. There is a gold border around the outside edge of the front of the mount.;The photograph is housed in the album 2017.30. The album page has a triple-lined, gold border framing the print. Handwritten in graphite on the album page below the printed frame of the window is the text "Mrs. Johnson Washington sister of / Lived to be over 90."
