In 1956 Althea Gibson (1927-2003) became the first African-American to win a Grand Slam title (the French Championships). The following year she won both Wimbledon and the US Nationals. Red and white tennis racket cover. White type appears on center of either side reading, [Wilson]. The "Wilson" type has been covered with tape. White type near bottom of covering reads [MADE IN/U.S.A.]. Cover has zipper running along side of cover.
