This document is from a collection of financial papers related to the plantation operations of several generations of the Rouzee Family in Essex County, Virginia. The papers date from the 1790s through 1860. This document is an invoice and receipt of payment for room and board of Miss Sarah and Mrs Harriet Rouzee by Mary R. Carter. The document lists board from the 12th of September to the 18th of September, 1829 at one (1) dollar a day. It also includes board for the 22nd of September, 1829 to the 1st of October, 1829. The document itemizes meals, listing the date, the type of meal had and for whom, and the amount in the right column, starting with "Dinner for Servant + Supper" on the 18th and ending with "Dinner for self + Servant" on the 1st. The total amount due to Carter by the Rouzees' was forty-four (44) dollars and thirty-seven (37) cents. The document is signed at the bottom by Charles Carter for Mary R. Carter. The document is handwritten in black ink, one page, single-sided. At the bottom right corner there are multiple ink spots that have bled through from the reverse. On the reverse is written "M. Mary Carter bill $44.37 Oct 1 1809." The date is partially obscured by ink spots. The page in unevenly torn at the bottom and has been folded once vertically and once horizontally.
