This document is from a collection of financial papers related to the plantation operations of several generations of the Rouzee Family in Essex County, Virginia. The papers date from the 1790s through 1860. This handwritten, single page document is an account of taxes owed by Edward Rouzee for the year 1817. The taxable property is listed as "28 neg + 11 horses," as well as seven hundred and forty-eight (748) acres of land, twenty-nine (29) levies at ninety-two (92) cents each.
