The March Against Fear demonstration during the period of the Civil Rights Movement in the USA, was a walk by African-American activist James Meredith from Memphis, Tennessee, to Jackson, Mississippi, a distance of 220 miles. The purpose was to counter the continuing racism in the Mississippi Delta despite the passage of federal civil rights legislation, and to encourage African Americans in the state to register to vote. Straw hat with a cloth band around the crown. The cloth band is multi-colored with blue and green stripes and the word [FREEDOM] written around it in white letters that have the background colors showing through.
