Model, Wind Tunnel, Convair Space Shuttle, 2007. This wind tunnel 0.006 scale model set dates from the early Space Shuttle design effort. In 1968-1970 the Convair Division of General Dynamics evaluated the aerodynamics of both a delta wing and a straight wing spacecraft design with either a vertical or a horizontal tail. This model, which can be reconfigured with different wings, tails, and fuselage sections, is a versatile device for testing design concepts. It suggests the experimentation and craft of aeronautical engineering. The model set passed from General Dynamics to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and then to a private collector who donated it to the Museum in 2007. .
